Every year around this time, I get a little homesick for San Diego. This lasts until the first tender flowering of the magnolia here in Boston.
These were taken in March: the perfect time to visit Southern California, especially if there's been a rainy season. The hills are green and lush, the air is clean and the light is softened from it's summer intensity.
If it were Springtime in San Diego all year, I'd go back in a heart beat.

Those pictures make me want to paint. I am from the SF area--haven't lived there for decades, but sometimes the northeast feels small and insular and I long for California.
Amazing skies!
Jen - Right? I lived in Berkeley back in The Day and ever since, when I'm approaching the Bay from any direction, I get a lump in my throat. Now THAT's a landscape!
Oddly, I feel slightly envious of your homesickness for a place. Because I don't really come from anywhere (that's growing up in an Army family for you), I don't feel I belong anywhere, so any twinge of homesickness tends to be for my house, my cats, rather than a place.
That's how I feel about the rivers/lakes and foghorns in Michigan.

Rachel, if you're ever away for very long from your lovely village, I know you'll feel it then! Sometimes I feel it a bit when I think of leaving New England.
Jane - I once had a bride who had special pebbles shipped to me from a river in Michigan for her centerpieces. Must be lovely.
Beautiful photos, Jen. It's odd (and good) how we can love the place we are "from" as well as the place we "are". When I first moved from the hills of Tennessee to eastern Virginia, I missed looking up, but now I am such a flat-lander than I cannot imagine leaving the beaches of the coast.
But, the skies really are different. Hope you get to visit soon.
i have the same feeling for Barc elona. I live in Bilbao a little city in Spain.
Oh my -- I felt my pulse race and my chest ache when I saw the first photo - danger of contagious homesickness!
