On Mother's Day, twenty five years ago, I was standing on the flagstones at Bloomer's in La Jolla California, staring down at a selection of flowers so extraordinarily lovely and mysterious that I decided on that afternoon that flowers were my fate. A week later, I had withdrawn from Graduate School and was sitting on a plastic bucket outside in a Supermarket parking lot, cleaning chrysathemums for a Flower Kiosk.
Mother's Day is my favorite flower holiday. The weather in May is usually perfect. The flowers are at their perfection peak: peonies, garden roses, bridal veil, sweet peas, scilla, clematis.

This is why I became a florist. Amen.

and, obviously a damn good one, too!
How funny, yet fitting.
It is a most perfect holiday, peonies, no threat of an ice storm and th next day off.
Relax!
